He hasn't regained consciousness yet. Doctor McCoy says that's okay, that he needs the rest. [It would be pointless to lie about that. She'd figure it out for herself one way or another.
Abruptly, there's a knock on Ziggy's door.]
It's me.
Action ancient tag, you can totally drop this if it's taken too long
[Ziggy looks predictably unhappy when the door is opened, the shadows of her face stark with worry. It's hard not to think about the fact that she's gotten so used to the people she cares about getting hurt, getting killed, getting treated unkindly by someone else — and it makes her want to ball up her fists and whale on the person responsible.
But it also sucks, to not immediately leap into action.
She breathes out deeply.]
... Hey.
You're lucky it's you telling me to stay still; I would've caused a lot more trouble by now.
[His expression is a mirror of her own feelings, but it softens a little at the sight of her. The fact that she makes it clear she's only listening because it's him isn't lost on him and a brief swell of affection chases away the anger even if it doesn't last long.]
I know. [He agrees and then lets out a long sigh, reaching up to rub at his temple.]
I need you to stay away from him for now. Will you promise me that you'll do that?
[There's a long, stare that follows, as if she's trying to study his face like the words of a book. Whatever she reads there, it's enough for her to stay put it seems, because her body deflates a fraction.]
... I promise. But if he makes a habit of hurting you guys, we might have to revisit this negotiation, you know? [Because she's never been that great at standing around and watching other people get picked on or hurt. It's screwed up and deserves a damn knuckle sandwich.
[To that at least, Wei Wuxian snorts and his eyes take on a dangerous glimmer.]
He's no threat to me Ziggy, and I'm going to make sure he knows it. This—[He pauses, making sure the single word encompasses all that's happened] Will never happen again.
And if he ever so much as looks at you or Finn the wrong way, you won't have to worry about going after him. [He leaves the threat vague, but it's clear enough to imagine. Wei Wuxian does his best to be kind and forgiving. He's slow to anger and slower to violence. But hurting someone he cares about? For that, Wei Wuxian will show no mercy.]
[She breathes out through her nose, and though she doesn't have the heart right now to look amused or fond about the whole thing — she can see it all for what it is, and she appreciates it. More than he might know. Or maybe he does; maybe he can appreciate it how it feels, when you had felt alone and unguarded before, only to realize you've collected people who really worry about your well-being.
Some days, it had seemed like only Cindy did. Back when. In another life, as she likes to call it.
Reaching out, she squeezes his hand.]
I solemnly swear, as your most totally treasured, best pupil. I won't let it happen to me. Not here on this station.
... You might have to worry about me trying to fight monsters on occasion outside of the station, though.
[Wei Wuxian exhales relief and tension in equal amounts, and then apropos of nothing, he reaches forward to tug Ziggy into a loose hug. It's been a stressful day to say the least, but seeing her has helped him manage the burning anger inside of him and he's more grateful than he can say, for her presence and her promise. He huffs softly and then steps back, leaving a hand on her shoulder.]
The monsters are the ones who should be worrying, a-Xing. You're not a force to be underestimated. [He offers her a soft smile.]
I'm going to head back to the infirmary now, but I'll let you know as soon as Doctor McCoy says he can have other visitors, alright? And if you need me, or just want to talk, call me. I'll be there.
